Matthew Schmidt joined Columbia in July of 2024 as an Assistant Director of Athletic Equipment Operations
At Columbia, Matthew collaborates closely with the Director of Athletic Equipment Operations to facilitate efficient and accurate equipment orders, distribution, and laundering for the university’s 31 intercollegiate teams, ensuring they have the necessary gear to excel.
Prior to his move to NYC, Schmidt spent time at the University of Texas, San Antonio as Assistant Equipment Manager for Olympic sports. At UTSA, his duties included but were not limited to being in charge of day-to-day equipment operations of five Division 1 Olympic Sport
Teams: Volleyball, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Baseball, and Softball. He also worked with coaches and support staff members from each team to determine equipment and apparel needs through Adidas and other vendors, while managing budgets and creating projected finical spending forecasts to ensure sports stayed within budgets.
He arrived in San Antonio following one season as an equipment operations intern with the Wake Forest football program, also serving as a personnel assistant to head coach Dave Clawson.
Prior to joining the Demon Deacons in the ACC, Schmidt served his alma mater as a student equipment manager at SUNY Cortland after working two years as an equipment operations intern for Army West Point's football program.
Schmidt earned his bachelor of science degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in coaching from SUNY Cortland in December 2022.
