NEW YORK - Juniors Bailey Schroeder and Meghan Hurlbut each found the back of the net and Columbia outshot Robert Morris 33-5 on its way to a 2-0 win, its fourth straight victory and seventh straight at home, a new school record.
Columbia (8-4-1) dominated the first half, outshooting Robert Morris 13-2, while controlling much of the possession during the stanza. Hurlbut (CC-McLean, Va.) posted five shots during the half, but the Lions were unable to get on the board until the 45th minute. On Columbia's seventh corner of the half, junior Cassie Hamar (CC-Beverly Hills, Calif.) regained her corner kick on the near side, crossed a ball into the box, and Schroeder (CC-Burlington, Ontario) knocked it home for her second goal of the season to give Columbia a 1-0 edge heading into intermission.
The second was much of the same for Columbia, which recorded 20 shots during the half. In the 79th minute, Hurlbut connected on her third goal of the season off a feed from first-year Yasha MacDonald (CC-Whitman, Mass.) to give the Lions some breathing room at 2-0.
Sophomore Allison Vespa (CC-Franklin Lakes, N.J.) made one save in the first half for Columbia and first-year Rebecca Taylor (CC-Lincoln, Mass.) had two saves in the final 45 minutes to preserve the Lions' third consecutive shutout and its fifth of the season.
Columbia returns to its Ivy League slate when the team is back in action on Sunday, October 23 against Dartmouth at noon.
