Women's Soccer Falls to Dartmouth, 5-0

HANOVER, N.H. - After playing a scoreless first half, Dartmouth broke the match open in the second half with five straight goals to defeat the Lions 5-0.

The first 45 minutes was a defensive struggle, with only two shots on goal, both by Dartmouth (10-3-1, 3-1 Ivy) that were stopped by sophomore keeper Allison Vespa (CC-Franklin Lakes, N.J.).

The scoring began in the 53rd minute, as Sarah Johnson scored the first of her two goals of the match. After Melissa Matulich made it 2-0 five minutes later, Johnson followed up with her ninth goal of the season in the 67th minute, as she and Emily Tracy connected again to make it 3-0. Megan Wijas then scored consecutive goals just 1:31 apart to give Dartmouth the final margin.

Vespa stopped five shots in all, and Dartmouth keeper Amanda Webb made one save for the shutout.

Columbia (8-5-1, 2-2 Ivy) returns to action on Friday, October 28 in a critical matchup against first-place Yale at Columbia Soccer Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m.
