Lions Break Pool 200 Free Relay Record, But Fall to Harvard in Women's Swimming & Diving

NEW YORK - Columbia set a Uris Pool record to win the 200 free relay, but the Lions lost to Harvard, 159-84. The Crimson placed first in 11 of the meet's first 12 events in the 13-event, short-order meet.
In the meet's finale, junior Leslie Bailey (CC), first-years Hannah Galey (CC) and Casey Weddle (CC), and junior Mary McCue (CC) swam 1:37.41 to break the previous pool 200 free relay record of 1:37.62 set by Jen White, Katie Lynch, Lyssa Roberts and Cristina Teuscher in 1998. The Lions' foursome finished 1.43 seconds ahead of the Crimson's top relay this evening.
The Lions' other highlight was a one-two sweep of the 50 free. Galey and Bailey swam 24.39 and 24.75, respectively, to take the top two spots.
Columbia took second and third in the 1650 free. Harvard's Emiley Jellie won in 16:55.05, followed by juniors Lauren Morford (CC) in 17:15.73 and Kathryn Taylor (CC) in 17:26.36.
Weddle placed second in the 100 free in 54.10 behind Harvard's Emily Wilson (53.76).
The Lions (1-1, 1-1 Ivy) return to action Sunday, Nov. 20 when they host Dartmouth at noon.
