Women's Soccer Fights to Scoreless Draw with American

IRVINE, CALIF. - Columbia tied UC Irvine in the first day of the UC Irvine Nike Holiday Inn Tournament. The match ended in a scoreless tie after 90 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods.

Lion keeper Allison Vespa (So.-Franklin Lakes, N.J.) stopped four UC Irvine (1-3-1) shots for her first shutout of the season.

Both teams had limited opportunities throughout the match as UC Irvine posted six shots while the Lions had eight shots during the contest.

Columbia (1-1-1) will return to action Sunday, September 11 in the second day of the tournament against UC Riverside. Game time is 2 p.m. Eastern.
