HAMILTON, N.Y. - Courtney Nasshorn and Lindsey Knowles each scored for Columbia but Colgate's Jackie Burch scored the golden goal with 3:26 left in the second overtime to give Colgate a 3-2 victory.
First-year keeper Rebecca Taylor (Lincoln, Mass.) stopped four shots in the first half and Columbia had three of its own shots denied as the teams entered the second half scoreless.
Columbia (4-4-1) got on the board first when Knowles (McLean, Va.) connected on a nifty two-on-one with Nasshorn (Newtown, Pa.), who made a cross behind the Colgate defender and Knowles fired home her first goal of the season to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Colgate (5-3-1) came back with two goals in the next 16 minutes, taking the lead on Franny Iacuzzi's sixth goal of the season at the 70:13 mark in the second half.
More than three minutes later, Nasshorn took a pass from first-year Yasha MacDonald (Whitman, Mass.) and tallied the equalizer, making the score 2-2 with 16:35 remaining in regulation.
The teams would remain tied for 33 minutes before Burch took a feed from Iacuzzi, giving Colgate the 3-2 victory.
In her first collegiate start, Taylor finished the match with 10 saves, as did Colgate keeper Luisa Miller.
Next up for Columbia is a matchup with Brown on Friday, September 30 at home at 7:30 p.m. as the Lions resume their Ivy League slate
