HANOVER, N.H. - The Lions fell 1-0 in the first game of the twin bill and dropped the second game 12-2 against Ivy foe Dartmouth.
In the first game, the Big Green were able to score one run in the bottom of the first inning to take the game. Dartmouth was able to get a runner in scoring position with two outs and then he was brought home on a single.
Sophomore Bill Purdy (1-5) took the loss, pitching six innings, allowing five hits and one run. First-year Kyle Roberts was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate as three different Lions accounted for the rest of Columbia's hits.
In the second game, Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead again in the bottom of the first inning. Columbia took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on three hits. With one out, first-year Ron Williams doubled to centerfield. Sophomore Noah Cooper bunted him over to third and then fellow sophomore Henry Perkins hit Williams home on another double to centerfield. Perkins scored on a hit by first-year Spencer Silverstein as Columbia took a 2-1 lead.
Dartmouth quickly took the lead back, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning on four hits. The Big Green scored runs in every remaining inning to win by a final score 12-2.
Sophomore John Baumann (2-2) recorded the loss pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 14 hits and 11 runs (9 earned) while striking out four batters. Perkins finished the game hitting 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
The Lions face Harvard tomorrow, Sunday, April 9th in Cambridge, Mass. The doubleheader will begin at noon.
