James Bogner is a sophomore on the Columbia cross country and track and field teams. He is from Scottsdale, Ariz., and has competed in many meets and invitationals already in his collegiate career.

What goes through your mind as you are running your races? When racing, all I think about is beating the other guys.

What event besides your own would you like to try? Sometimes I think that I might be good at steeple.

What's the most demanding part of running in a race?
The most demanding part of the race is keeping your head in the game when your race plan is not falling into place. Staying calm, adjusting and still performing are difficult.

What's your favorite surface to run on?
Everything that everyone else hates.

What's your ideal setting to run in? I like early, cloudy, mornings for running.

How did you choose the event you run in? I like distance, so the farther the race, the better.

What song do you never tire of hearing? Seven Marry Three - Cumbersome

If your life were a movie what would it be titled?
The Ongoing Struggle to Outwit Failure

What fictional character would you be? Yossarian in Catch 22

Most overused phrase on AIM? “ttyl” ? talk to you later. The next person that does that to me is getting blocked.

Who do you think is an influential person in the world today and why?
The most influential people in the world are those that can bring about positive meaningful change without the use of a spotlight. If you need a spotlight to create change, your going to be subject to the direction that spotlight moves on stage. You become a puppet and pawn of the spotlight, eventually abandoning that cause which was important enough for you to seek the spotlight.
