NEW YORK ? Columbia's team grade-point average of 3.348 has the Lions tied for 30th in Division I, according to a list available on CollegeSwimming.com.
Columbia, which is fourth among the Ivy League teams on the list, is tied with Boston College for 30th. There are 104 Division I programs with a team GPA of 3.0 or better.
"We are very proud of the women and what they are able to accomplish in the classroom," says Diana Caskey, head coach of swimming. "They have a challenging academic and athletic schedule and this award speaks volumes to the type of student-athlete we have at Columbia/Barnard."
In March, the Lions earned an Academic All-American Team certificate from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The team ranked 27th in Division I with a team grade-point average of 3.31 for the fall 2006 semester.
