INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Men's College Cup will celebrate its 50th anniversary this fall by forming an anniversary team, and the NCAA has announced the 32 student-athletes and six coaches who will make up the voting ballot, which will be hosted on NCAA.com. Two former Columbia standouts, Barry Nix '82 and Amr Aly '85, made the cut and will appear on the final ballot. The final day to vote is this Wednesday, Oct. 15, so don't forget to get your ballots in!
Nix had the rare distinction of earning All-America honors four times(first team as a freshman, sophomore and senior, second team as ajunior) during his career. Nix was an integral part of Columbia'sdefensive-minded teams which won three-straight Ivy League titles andmade an appearance in the 1979 NCAA College Cup. He was also a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year (1980, 1981)
The 1984 Hermann Trophy recipient, handed out annually to the top collegiate men's soccer player in the country, Aly also garnered second teamAll-America honors in 1984 and third team accolades in 1983. He helpedColumbia to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including anational-runner up finish in 1983.
