NEW YORK ? Ten Women's Recurve archers have made All-American for the 2007-2008 season. Fittingly, five honorees are members of the Recurve national champion Columbia Lions.
It isn't easy to earn All-American honors in college archery. All-Americans are determined by adding the FITA (individual round) scores of both the collegiate Indoor Nationals in March and the U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championships (USIAC), an outdoor competition which was just completed. All-Americans are those in each of the four divisions ? Men's and Women's Recurve, Men's and Women's Compound ? whose combined scores are the ten highest in the division.
The two finalists for the Women's Recurve individual championship, Columbia's Margot Stuchin and Annette Gorelik of Claremont Mudd Scripps, earned the top two All-American spots. Stuchin shot 1114 at the Indoor Nationals and 1151 at USIAC for a total of 2265. Gorelik fired a 1070 indoors, 1153 outdoors for a total of 2223.
The next four spots were all occupied by Ivy Leaguers. Three were Columbia archers, including junior Sara Mancini, third; senior co-captain Robin Liang, fifth; and junior Sara Goshorn, sixth. They were joined by Tina Jeon of Yale, who was fourth.
Rounding out the top ten were Lyndsey Marzec of Texas A&M, seventh; Cat Wu of UC Berkeley, eighth; Tami Raffaelli of Texas A&M, ninth; and another Columbia first-year, Alexandra Garyn, tenth. Lion junior Stephanie Botica narrowly missed making All-American ? her total of 2111 was 12th, tied with Danielle McCullough of Westminster, and behind 11th place Angelina Smith of Washington.
The All-American honor was the third for Liang, who made it as a sophomore and junior, and Mancini, All-American as a first-year and sophomore. Junior co-captain Amanda McDermott had also made All-American her first two seasons, in the Women's Compound Division, but missed a third straight honor when her combined total of 2325 was 13th, 51 points out of tenth.
Never before had the Lions boasted five All-Americans in one season. They had four chosen in each of the past two seasons, both under head coach Derek Davis.
The 2006 honorees included Liang, Mancini, McDermott and Xiao Hui Chin '06CC; 2007 All-Americans included Stephanie Miller '07CC, as well as Liang, Mancini and McDermott.

??
USA Archery designated USIAC's first (FITA) round as a national qualifier for the U.S. team in the upcoming World University Archery Championships, prompting Stephanie Miller to rejoin her old teammates on the field. Miller, who just missed making the Olympic Team when she finished fifth in the trials, shot well enough to be chosen for the Championships, which are open to former as well as present college students. The All-American honor roll (women's divisions):
