NEW YORK -- Junior Nora Dooley scored a pair of goals in leading the Columbia University women's soccer team to a pivotal 2-0 victory over Princeton on Saturday. For her efforts, she became the second consecutive Lion to be named Ivy League Player of the Week by the conference, and the fourth different Columbia player to earn the award in 2010. Dooley also earned recognition from BigAppleSoccer.com, which named her two goals the Women's College Goals of the Week.
Dooley helped vault the Lions into sole possession of first place in the Ivy League with a pair of second-half goals against the previously unbeaten Tigers. The junior midfielder broke a 0-0 deadlock in the 58th minute, as she converted what would prove to be the game-winning goal off a long throw in from first-year Chelsea Ryan.
Dooley finished off her superb performance with an insurance goal in the 85th minute when she finished to the right side after collecting a loose ball from 12 yards out.
Junior Ashlin Yahr earned Ivy League weekly honors on Oct. 11 after her two goals helped Columbia to a road win over Penn on Oct. 9. Previously, junior Lillian Klein (Sept. 13) and senior Lauren Cooke (Sept. 20) won Player of the Week awards in back-to-back weeks.
Columbia will look to extend its seven-match unbeaten streak on Monday, Oct. 18 against Manhattan. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
