NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team fell to Yale at home Saturday, losing to the Bulldogs 6-1. With the loss, the Lions now stand at 9-12 overall, and 0-5 in the Ivy League.
The nationally ranked Bulldogs took an early lead on the Lions, as they swept all three doubles spots to take the first point of the day. First-year

Carling Donovan fell at No. 1 doubles, 8-0, while
Eliza Matache and
Natalia Christenson lost 8-1 at N.o 3. And in the No. 2 spot,
Natasha Makarova and first-year
Katarina Kovacevic lost 8-2.
In singles,
Eliza Matache earned the lone point of the day for the Lions, as she had a win in the No. 4 spot, beating Stevi Petrelli, 6-4, 7-6(3). Davis had the lone three set match of the day, as she took Stephanie Kent to a super tiebreaker, eventually falling 6-7(5), 7-5, 10-3. The rest of the Lions lost in straight sets. Makarova, playing No. 1, battled in the first set but couldn't hold on, losing to Vicky Brook, 7-5, 6-0. Kovacevic fell in the No. 3 spot to Jessica Rhee, 6-2, 6-2, while
Diana Shapoval and Christenson lost 6-0, 6-0 in the Nos. 5 and 6 spots.
Up next for the Lions is Ivy rival Penn, for Senior Day. The women's tennis team will honor lone senior and co-captain
Carling Donovan in the last home match of the season, Friday, April 16 at 2 p.m. Columbia will then conclude the 2010 season on the road at Princeton, Sunday, April 18.
