Pizzano Named Ping!Baseball Third Team Freshman All-American

NEW YORK – Named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball earlier this month, Columbia's Dario Pizzano gained another honor recently when he was named to Ping!Baseball's 2010 Freshman All-American Team.

The Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Year and a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week, Pizzano had a strong year for the Lions, holding down the left field position in the field while swinging a scorching hot bat.

Pizzano was on fire at the plate throughout the Ivy League season, as he hit .388 in league play with seven home runs and finished the season with a .374 batting average.

He led the league in slugging percentage (.741), and finished the season with 12 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 36 runs batted in.  He led all Ivy League rookies in hits, home runs and runs batted in during the 2010 season.

Columbia will start the 2011 season on the first weekend of March.
