
Cross Country Gears For NCAA Northeast Regionals

The Columbia men's and women's cross country team have put together strong performances all season and both teams will look to have their best performances on Friday, Nov. 9. On Friday, the Lions will head to Madison, Conn. for the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships at Hammonesset State Park. The women's 6k-race will begin at noon followed by the men's 10k-race at 1:15 pm.
The field will include 39 teams across the Northeast region, including five Ivy League opponents, all competing for a bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championships..The top two teams from each of the nine regions (18 teams total) automatically qualify for the NCAA National Championships. The NCAA Division I Track and Field subcommittee also selects 13 at-large teams.
The first four individuals who are not on automatic qualifying teams (teams that finished in the top two at a regional) and who finished in the top 25 will automatically qualify for the NCAA National championship meet. The NCAA Division I Track and Field subcommittee will also select two at-large individuals who finished in the top 25 of their regional meets.
Coming off a second place finish at the 2012 Ivy League Championships, the men's team will line up with a No.3 northeast regional ranking from the latest NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Cross Country polls. The Lions have placed as high as No. 2 this season in the regional polls and remain the top ranked team in the northeast for the Ivy League.

The women's cross country team will face a tough challenge heading into Madiosn, gearing to bounce back from their sixth place finish at Heps nearly two weeks ago.
