Women's Cross Country Takes Third In Toledo Bubble Buster

TOLEDO, Ohio - Sophomore Waverly Neer and senior Erin Gillingham posted top five finishes to lead the Columbia women's cross country team to a third-place showing out of 14 schools in the 2011 Toledo Inter-Regional Bubble Buster in Ottawa Park.
Columbia totaled 92 points in the 4K race to take third defeating three top 25 ranked opponents in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll. The Lions finished ahead of #25 West Virginia, #22 Syracuse, and host #18 Toledo. Butler took first with 72 points followed by San Francisco in second with 86 points.
Neer and Gillingham had strong performances for Columbia and are coming into midseason form. With a time of 13:22.8 and a 1 km pace time of 3:21, she finished third overall. Just paces behind was Gillingham at 13:23.6 with a 3:21 1 km pace time for fourth place.
Sophomore Aryn Foland (25th, 13:51.0), senior Emily Lanois (28th, 13:53.8), and first-year Olivia Sadler (30th, 13:56.4) strong showings gave the Lions five finishers in the top 30 of the 176 runner field.
The Columbia women will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 5 when they compete in the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park.
