FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Winston Lin of the Columbia men's tennis team stood on top of the podium at the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional for the second straight year as the senior took down teammate Ashok Narayana in the finals at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Lin, the tournament's top seed and eighth-ranked singles player in the nation, will return to the National Tennis Center Nov. 6-9 as he earned an automatic ticket to the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships with the 7-6, 6-3 victory.
Also for the Lions, No. 108 Narayana was impressive on both the singles and doubles court over the six-day event. The senior, who was seeded 5-8, worked his way through the 128-player bracket to reach the finals for the first time of his career.
Lin and Narayana also helped the Lions rewrite their record book as the duo was apart of the first six Columbia players to compete in the Northeast regional quarterfinals and the trio to take the court in the semfinals.
Columbia continues it fall slate when it makes the trip to Orlando, Florida, for the ESPN/Florida State Invitational Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
