Women's Soccer Weekly Release - Week 10
PRINCETON, N.J. - Columbia women's soccer defender Kerry Manion was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Manion tallied a first collegiate score in a 4-0 victory over Lafayette on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and played a pivotal role in back-to-back shutouts for the Lions.
Manion has been vital for a Columbia back line that has consistently made the Lions one of the best defenses in the Ivy League. The Westlake Village, California native, aided the Lions largest margin of victory this season in a 4-0 shutout over Lafayette, including a score in the 23rd minute. Elly McGuffog played a solid kick in the box from the right corner, and after bouncing off a few players, Manion was able to get a foot on the ball to tap in her first career goal.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Lions jump backed into Ivy League at Yale and for the sixth match this season Columbia finished with a draw at 0-0. Manion helped the Lions blank the Bulldogs through 110 minutes of play to set a new program record for the most ties in a season, surpassing the previous record of five ties in 1998.
Up next, Columbia (7-3-6, 2-2-2 Ivy League) will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1:30pm as they travel to face league leading Harvard for the final match of the regular season.
