NEW YORK - The Columbia cross country teams competed against some of the nation's best again this year at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Friday, before taking home two wins at the Leopard Invitational on Saturday.
Wisconsin Adidas Invitational
Among the 14 teams in the USTFCCCA Top-30, the Columbia men finished in 10th place, taking down six ranked teams in No. 4 Stanford, No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 15 Michigan State, No. 16 Indiana, No. 26 Iowa State, No. 27 Princeton.
The women claimed 17th in a field that featured 18 ranked teams, besting four ranked teams in No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 19 North Carolina, No. 20 West Virginia, No. 21 Vanderbilt.
Wisconsin Women's Race
New Mexico proved their No. 1 ranking, finishing in places 4-7 for the win. The individual women's champion was Boise State's Ally Ostrander, who set a course record when the rookie finished the 6K in 19:19.5.
The Columbia women were led by Natalie Tanner for the second straight meet. The junior kicked home in 20:21.7 for 34th place, which was a personal best time by close to one minute. Tanner's previous best 6K came in last year's Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, when she crossed the line in 21:17 for 16th place.
Olivia Sadler finished next for the women, not far behind Tanner in 61st place. Sadler clocked a 20:35.6, which was 20 seconds better than teammate Leila Mantila, who finished 92nd in 20:55.6.
First-year Emily Acker put together a strong race, crossing the line in 112th at 21:06.6. Pegah Khosravi-Kamrani was also among the top-five Columbia finishers when she ran 21:44.6 for 182nd.
Wisconsin Men's Race
The highest ranked team in the men's race had a strong outing when No. 2 Syracuse topped the field in first place. Tulsa's Marc Scott was the indivudual champion in the 8K race in 23:35.0
Aubrey Myjer could see Scott cross the line, as the senior was not far behind the sophomore from Tulsa. Myjer clocked a personal best 23:52.5 for 19th place overall. The previous best for Myjer came recently at the Princeton Inter Regional meet, when he clocked a 24:29 in the 8K.
Tait Rutherford also turned in a career-day at Wisconsin, finishing in 43rd place in 24:07.7. Rutherford bested teammate Jack Boyle by seven seconds, as the junior's 24:14.8 put him in 58th.
Sam Ritz and Max Norris also put together strong outings for the men, taking spots four and five among the Columbia competitors. Ritz ran 24:23.9 for 87th, while Norris clocked a 24:45.9 for 154th.
Leopard Invitational Women's Race
The Columbia women topped the field of five teams en route to a win at the Leopard Invitational, hosted by Lafayette. The Lions posted an average time of 22:25 in the 6K race, topping second place American by 49 seconds.
Libby Kokes led the way for Columbia, taking home a runner-up finish. Kokes clocked a 22:14, not far behind American's Kassidy Ayres who claimed first in 22:00.
Columbia also claimed placed four, five, six, eight and nine for the win. Emily Krasinski was fourth in 22:17, Henna Rustami was fifth in 22:28, Nell Crosby finished sixth in 22:29, Samantha Siler took eighth in 22:39 and Victoria Ingram was ninth in 22:40.
Leopard Invitational Men's Race
The men's team was also victorious, taking home three top-five finishes with an average time of 25:45 in the 8K race. American was also the runner-up in the men's race, with an average time of 25:59.
Robert Napolitano finished in second place overall, clocking a 25:38 along the way. Benjamin Ritz was right behind Napolitano in third at 25:40, while Dustin Wilson took fifth in 25:44.
Marc Violone and Dylan Tarpey also were among the top-10 finishers, with Violone finishing seventh in 25:49 and Tarpey taking ninth in 25:55.
