Cross Country Rounds Out Final Weekend of Competition

NCAA Results | Men's IC4A/ECAC | Women's IC4A/ECAC

LOUISVILLE - The men's and women's cross country teams were both victorious at today's IC4A/ECAC Championships in the Bronx, while Tait Rutherford competed at the NCAA Championships today in Louisville.

The result in the Bronx makes it two straight years in which both the men's and women's teams were the winners at the IC4A/ECAC Championships.

NCAA Cross Country Championships

Rutherford took off in the NCAA Championships as the lone Columbia qualifier after a ninth place finish in the Northeast Regionals. The senior went 31:18.6 in the 10K to finish 140th among the 252 competitors. The race capped a tremendous fall for Rutherford, who helped the Lions to an Ivy League title and earned a spot on the All-Ivy League second team.

Men's IC4A/ECAC Championships

Although the Lions were without one of their top runners, the men's team still managed to earn a first place finish among the six teams competing at Van Cortlandt Park.

Jack Boyle led the way, coming through as the top finisher in the meet. The junior clocked a 25:21.2 in the 5 Mile run, beating out Harvard's Chris Allen who claimed second in 25:29.2.

Columbia got a third place run from Brian Zabilski, who crossed the line in 25:34.9, followed by a pack of Lions in spots 7-10. Sam Ritz was seventh in 25:39.1, Spencer Haik took eighth in 25:40.1, Dustin Wilson claimed ninth in 25:40.6, and Ben Ritz finished 10th in 25:44.6.

With the combined 28 points, the men were able to hold off second place Saint Joseph's, who had 70. Harvard claimed third place with 78.
