Three Meets On Tap For Track & Field This Weekend

NEW YORK – The Columbia track & field teams will send athletes to three different meets in the northeast this weekend, as the Lions are in the heart of indoor competition.
The two Friday meets will be the Metropolitan Indoor Championships at the NYC Armory, and the Crimson Elite Meet hosted by Harvard. On Saturday, four men's runners are scheduled to take part in the mile run at the Giegengack Invitational, hosted by Yale.
Metropolitan Championships, NYC Armory – Friday, February 6
For the third and final time this season, Columbia will take a quick trip uptown to compete in a meet at the Armory. The Metropolitan Indoor Championships will get under way at 10:50 a.m. start with the 5K, with field events scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start.
On the men's side, Corey Hammond will try his luck in two events. The junior will start the day in the 60m high hurdles, then try to improve his personal best of 50.03 in the 400m.
The women will be highlighted by Madelyn Magee, who has been solid all season in the high jump for the Lions. Magee brings in a season best of 1.69m (5'6.5”), while taking first place in a tri-meet with Dartmouth and Yale at 1.60m (5'5.5”).
Crimson Elite Meet, Gordon Indoor Track (Harvard), Cambridge, Mass. – Friday, February 6
Eight athletes from the men and women's teams will try their luck at the Crimson Elite meet, which is also on Friday afternoon.
The Harvard hosted meet will be highlighted by the women's triple jump, as three Columbia athletes will take part in the event. Underclassmen Addy Sonaike and Anna Williams will join senior Nadia Eke in the triple jump, with Eke being among the national leaders this season. After putting up a mark of 13.17m (43'2.5”)while winning the Armory Track Invitational, Eke has the fifth best mark in the NCAA this season.
Two members of the men's team will take part in the 400m dash at Harvard in Kevin Boyd and Yelnats Calvin. Boyd has yet to run in an event over 200 meters this year, but has gone under 48 seconds in the 400m twice in his career. Calvin turned in a 49.54 in the 400m at last weekend's Armory Invitational, and has a career-best of 48.76 at the distance.
Giegengack Invitational, Coxe Cage (Yale), New Haven, Conn. – Saturday, February 7
In New Haven, Connecticut on Saturday, four members of the men's team are entered into the mile run at the Giegengack Invitational, hosted by Yale. Casey Adams, Tal Braude, Aubrey Myjer, and Max Norris are scheduled to run eight laps at Coxe Cage. Of the quartet, Adams has posted the fastest career time in the mile at 4:12.59.
