NEW YORK - Tessa Kroll put together a complete game shutout in the second half of a doubleheader with Harvard, as the Columbia softball team earned its first conference win of the season to jump to 4-13 (1-1).
Game two started as a pitchers dual, when both teams combined for one hit in the first four and a half innings.
The Lions were able to add one run in their final three at-bats, leading to the win. Taylor Troutt put Harvard away for good, stepping on second and throwing to Kerry Cook at first for a game ending double play.
With the win, Kroll improves to 2-5 on the season. The junior gave up just two hits in the complete game, striking out two and walking three. Kroll finished just four over the minimum in game two, as the Lions posted a 3-0 win.
Alix Cook, Tonia Wu and Olivia Parker all scored runs to lead Columbia to the victory, while Taylor Troutt went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The win was a nice bounce-back victory for the Lions, as Harvard won a gritty 3-2 ballgame in the first half of the doubleheader. Tonia Wu took the loss in game one, after pitching seven innings and giving up only one earned run.
Columbia is back in action tomorrow with a home 12:30 p.m. doubleheader against Dartmouth.
