Columbia responded with an aggressive fight of their own in the second half with an 8-3 shot lead. Despite the offensive pressure the Lions were denied a score. Goalkeeper Allison Spencer posted five saves in goal to aid the Lions' fight against the Boston College attack, however the Eagles added another score in the 77th minute to grab a 2-nill win.
First of all, BC is a great program and their level of play is what we are striving to play at. We are not happy about the end result and the loss, but we are proud of many good moments and adjustments throughout the game, " said Columbia head coach Tracey Bartholomew.
"The second half we came out a goal down and worked very hard trying to get the goal back. We knocked the ball around better and created several good chances. I thought we were going to get one back. The good news is that We are getting to know each other and playing much better together. We will work hard this week to prepare for our next games! Looking forward to coming back to our house!"
Up next, the Lions (1-2-0) will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11 at 7:30pm to host Manhattan in its home opener at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.
