Columbia Finishes Runner-Up At Frank Elm Invitational

Piscataway, N.J. – The Columbia women's swimming team capped the three-day Frank Elm Invitational with 1,233 points for a runner-up finish in the ten-team field on Sunday, Nov. 20.
DAY THREE HIGHLIGHTS
The Lions were impressive in their final day at Werblin Recreation Center, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of of Mary Ashby, Alice Boutant, Kathleen O'Rourke, and Jennifer Shahar combined for a time of 3:23.07.
Trudi Patrick posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 buttefly with a time of 2:04.20, along with an eighth-place finish by Maureen Rakovec at 2:09.02 and a runner-up 'B' finals finish by Molly Zebker at 2:06.36 for an 11th-place overall finish.
The 200 breaststroke was led by Helen Wojdylo for the Lions who placed eighth behind a time of 2:19.20. Aileen Lee went on to place 12th overall at 2:23.04, followed by Celia Frick in 13th place at 2:23.82.
Lisa Zhang also put together an 'A' finals performance in the 200 backstroke with a sixth-place time of 2:02.02. In the 'B' finals, Malivika Pande placed 12th at 2:02.86, tied with teammate Julia Samson.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
Columbia continued to shine on the second day of action at the Frank Elm Invitational on Saturday with a number wining performances. The Lions first crown of the day came in the 200 medley relay as the squad of Mary Ashby, Jennifer Shahar, Julia Samson and Alice Boutant combined for pool record setting time of 1:41.26.
The Lions posted a pair of top-five finishes in the 400 I.M. led by Jessica Antiles who clocked in with a runner-up finals time of 4:20.85. Nicole Papsco hit the wall in fourth overall with her best time of the day at 4:25.25.
A large tally of points for Columbia came in the 200 freestyle with Alice Boutant leading the charge behind a third-place finish at 1:49.88. In the 'B' finals, Mary Ashby posted a runner-up finish placing 10th overall with a time of 1:52.57. Arianna Noya also hit the wall first in the 'C' finals with a time of 1:53.01.
In the 100 breaststroke, Helen Wojdylo clocked in with a fifth-place time of 1:03.74 with Jennifer Shahar close behind in a seventh-place finish at 1:03.94. Trudi Patrick also tallied points with a sixth-place overall finish in the 100 butterfly at 56.53.
The Lions capped the evening with runner-up finish in the 800 freestyle relay as the foursome of Helen Wojdylo, Alice Boutant, Mary Ashby and Jessica Antiles combined for a time of 7:29.21.
The Lions will return to action tommorrow at Werblin Recreation Center with the preliminary sessions are set to begin the day at 9:30 a.m, followed by the finals session at 5 p.m.

DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
The Lions first major points of the day came in opening finals event, the 200 freesytle relay. The foursome of Mary Ashby, Jennifer Shahar, Kathleen O'Rourke and Alice Boutant combined for a winning time of 1:32.58.
Helen Wojdylo collected runner-up points in the 500 freestyle with a second-place time of 4:55.85, while the Lions dominated the 50 freestyle lead by a second-place performance by Mary Ashby with a finals time 23.24. Ashby edged teammate Alice Boutant in the event who finished in third-place overall with a time of 23.49. Kathleen O'Rourke also came away with a 'B” finals victory in the event for ninth-place overall finish with a time of 23.34.
A sixth-place overall finish in the 200 I.M. by Julia Samson at 2:04.44 also highlighted the day for the Lions, along with a fourth-place finish in the 400 medley relay by the squad of Mary Ashby, Jennifer Shahar, Julia Samson and Alice Boutant at 3:45.79.
Columbia finished the opening day of events in third-place overall with 387 points, only trailing first-place Navy (518.5) and Northeastern (416).
