LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Columbia baseball team lost, 7-2, to Long Beach State in the third game of a four-game series. The Lions (2-11) and Dirtbags (14-5) will wrap up the set, Sunday, March 20 at 4 p.m. ET.
Columbia posted just two hits in the ballgame, but led for the first time all series after posting two runs in the top of the first inning.
Will Savage started the game with a walk and Kyle Bartelman reached on an error. Robb Paller loaded the bases with a single before Nick Maguire was issued a base on balls to open the scoring. John Kinne followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Lions an early 2-0 lead.
An RBI single from Tristan Mercadel cut the Columbia lead in half in the bottom of the second and Long Beach State took the lead for good in the third.
A base-hit and sacrifice put the tying run in scoring position. The Dirtbags then worked a walk and hit batter to load the bases before Daniel Jackson ripped a two-run single through the left side, giving his squad a 3-2 advantage.
Long Beach State later added two runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Adam Cline lasted six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits to go with three strikeouts.
