The Big Green held the Lions to two hits to earn the series win
HANOVER, N.H. — Columbia baseball fell to Dartmouth, 5-0, on Monday at Biondi Park to take the three-game set. The Big Green (5-13, 2-4) held the Lions (5-15, 3-3) to just two hits in the contest.
Dartmouth's Camden Miller powered a two-run homer in the second to give the Big Green a 2-0 advantage, a lead it would never relinquish. Dartmouth added to its lead in the third, using a leadoff double from Alejandro Puig before a sacrifice fly from Taer Rodriguez extended the margin to 3-0.
The Lions threatened in the fifth inning after Ben Fishel was hit by a pitch and swiped both second and third. However, Dartmouth worked out of the jam, stranding Fishel and keeping Columbia off the board.
Dartmouth extended its lead in the fifth and sixth innings, as A.J. DeMastrie and Sam Andersen each drove in a run to stretch the advantage to 5-0.
Jack Kail and Jimmy Chadwell notched doubles in the contest for the Lions' only hits.
The Big Green leaned on the duo of Nate Kugler and Mac Burke on the mound. Kugler (1-1) tossed 5.0 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out two. Burke closed things out, allowing just one baserunner while holding Columbia hitless over the final four frames to earn the save.
