Lions Compete in Stony Brook Quad, Raleigh Relays

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Columbia track & field teams came away with three wins at the Stony Brook Quad, before six runners took part in the Raleigh Relays during the opening weekend of the outdoor season.
The men came away with the top four times in the 600m run at Stony Brook, when Robert Napolitano (1:19.82) edged Alek Sauer (1:19.94). Josiah Langstaff and Johnathan Sowah claimed third and fourth, respectively.
Corey Hammond also earned a victory for the men, when he clocked a 55.08 in the 400m hurdles.
Other top results included Thomas Rooney taking second in the 2K steeplechase in 6:17.70, Yelnats Calvin finishing third in the 200m dash at 22.53, followed by Ronald Busby in fourth at 22.61.
The women were highlighted by Aminat Iriafen, who was the winner of the 200m dash at 25.20.
In the 600m run, McKenzie Sup was the runner-up at 1:35.75, with Devon Towell not far behind in fourth at 1:36.27. Another second place finisher came from Lauren O'Connor in the javelin, with a throw of 36.67m.
The 2K steeplechase featured a second place finish from Julia Sienski in 7:22.51, while Victoria Ingram was the third place finisher in 7:41.93.
At the Raleigh Relays, Natalie Tanner led the way with the fourth best time in school history in the 5K run. Tanner clocked a 16:23.91 for sixth place, improving her personal best by 28 seconds.
Not far behind Tanner was Henna Rustami, who finished in ninth with the ninth best effort in Columbia track & field history at 16:33.69.
For the men, Tait Rutherford clocked a 29:41.64 in the 10K run at Raleigh, finishing in 18th place.
