Columbia Heads to Franklin Field for the 122nd Penn Relays

NEW YORK - The 122nd Annual Penn Relays will get under way on Thursday, with many Columbia athletes entered in events throughout the weekend.
The Lions will be active on Thursday, with a relay event, field event, and distance events taking place. Columbia will kick it off in the women's 4x100m relay at 1:15 pm, followed by the long jump, featuring Anna Williams and Addy Sonaike. On Thursday evening, Thomas Rooney is slated to compete in the men's 3K steeplechase, before Leila Mantilla and Erin Melly will take off in the women's race. In the men's 5K, four runners will try out their chances in Tait Rutherford, Max Norris, Dustin Wilson, and Marc Violone.
Corey Hammond will kick things off on Friday, running in the 400m hurdles at 9 am. The pair of women's jumpers will also return on Friday, when Williams and Sonaike take part in the triple jump.
Saturday only features two Columbia races, when the men's and women's 4x800m relays will hope for fast times during the afternoon.
In total, Columbia has nine Penn Relays Championships, dating back to 1907. The last Penn Relays victory for the Lions came a century after the first, when the men's 4x800m relay team captured the 2007 crown.
