NEW YORK – Columbia first-year Talia Tyler earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors after an impressive first weekend on the pitch.
Tyler saw her first action of the season in Columbia's home match with Fordham, tallying one goal and one assist during the 3-0 victory. With time running out in the first half, the Lions drew a corner kick. After Amaris Hemmings gathered the ball in the box, she found Tyler on the left side, who put the ball away with one second remaining before the half.
In the second half of action, sophomore Gracie Wall took back possession in the midfield, then found Tyler just past the midway line. The Muskegon, Michigan, native sent a forward ball to Mallaika Tomar, who chased it down and netted Columbia's third goal of the game, putting away the Rams in the process.
Also making the Ivy League honor roll for the week was Tomar, who finished with one goal and one assist, and senior Emma Anderson, who matched that output.
The Lions are back in action on Friday, Aug. 31 with a 5:00 p.m. EST match at Colorado College, before traveling to Denver on Sunday, Sept. 2.
