The Lions started with a three-set loss to Grand Canyon, but bounced back with a sweep of Marist (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) and a five-set, comeback victory over tournament host Delaware (25-20, 15-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-10). Junior Chichi Ikwuazom had 17 kills and four blocks against the Blue Hens and led the Lions through the weekend with 37 kills (3.36/set) to go with eight blocks (0.73/set). Sophomore setter Audrey Cheng came up with a double-double of 39 assists and 10 digs against Delaware, while first-year outside Emily Tehhan posted a double-double of 12 kills and 16 digs in the sweep over the Red Foxes. Junior libero Kalie Wood went for 30 digs against UD, marking her second career 30-dig match.
IKWUAZOM HITS MILESTONE
Chichi Ikwuazom recorded her 200th career block at last weekend's Blue Hen Invitational. Now with 207 blocks, the junior middle is 45 away from entering Columbia's top-five all-time. The program's career record is 337, set by Kathy Lavold (2000-02). Ikwuazom had 110 blocks last season to lead the Ivy League. She entered the season on pace to finish her career with nearly 400.
WILKINS HAS CAREER WEEKEND
Lauren Wilkins posted back-to-back career-highs in kills in last weekend's victories over Marist and Delaware. The senior outside went for a match-high 13 kills in the sweep over Marist and followed it up the next day with 15 kills to aid in the comeback over Delaware. Wilkins ranks second on the team with 55 kills and is averaging 2.50 per set. Her 55 kills and 41 digs have already surpassed her previous season bests from 2016.
TEEING OFF
First-year Emily Teehan leads the Columbia attack with 69 total kills and ranks No. 3 in the Ivy League with 3.14 kills per set through her first two collegiate weekends. The Toronto native is also the Ivy League leader in aces with 12 at an average of 0.55 per set and ranks No. 28 in aces nationally. Teehan has shown great defensive ability as well, ranking 10th in the Ivy League in digs at an even 3.00 per set. She was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll after the first week of play (Sept. 3).
FIRST WIN FOR KEELEY
Head coach Alliston Keeley earned her first Columbia victory when the Lions took care of tournament host Holy Cross in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) at the season-opening Holy Cross Invitational. Keeley is in her 11th season as an NCAA Div. I head coach and 19th season collegiately overall. Her first win at Columbia was also the 225th of her career.
