Football to Celebrate 2018 Season With Awards Banquet on Feb. 9

13 Awards will be presented; event begins with a welcome reception at 6 p.m. followed by the banquet program featuring highlight videos and dinner at 7 p.m. in Low Library Rotunda.
NEW YORK—Sponsored by the Columbia Football Players Club, the Columbia Football program will celebrate its 2018 football season with its annual awards banquet on the evening of Saturday, February 9 at Low Library.
The event begins with a welcome reception at 6 p.m. followed by the banquet program featuring highlight videos and dinner at 7 p.m. in Low Library Rotunda. Parents, guests and campus partners will be in attendance. Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football Al Bagnoli, along with all nine assistant coaches will present each of the 13 individual awards.
Alumnus Mike DeFazio '06CC will serve as host of the banquet. DeFazio is currently the head coach of the KIPP New York College Prep High School in the Bronx, whose team went undefeated and won the city football championship without a home field. A wide receiver, DeFazio earned three letters while playing for Columbia in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
Columbia completed its 2018 season with a 6-4 overall and 3-4 Ivy League record despite overcoming injuries and season-ending injuries to over 25 key players. The Lions registered back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1961 and 1962. Columbia has amassed 14 victories over the last two seasons, its highest win total in consecutive years since the institution joined the Ivy League in 1956. In addition, its six overall victories rank among the top-five season win totals at Columbia since 1956.
Columbia will honor its 2018 senior class which includes Chris Alleyne, Brock Anglin, Adam Armesto, Landon Baty, Kyle Castner, Patrick Eby, Cal Falkenhayn, Charlie Flores, Tre Gabriel, Ryan Gilbert, Mike Hinton, Daniel Hong, Markham Paukune, Tyler Schonewolf, Ryan Suitt, Pete Szymanski, Jason Vravick, Sean White and Jacob Young. Baty, Castner, Hinton and Paukune served as 2018 team captains.
