Columbia Men’s Soccer Hosts Harvard for Senior Day Sunday

Seven seniors to be honored in home finale
NEW YORK — Columbia men's soccer (4-7-4, 1-2-2 Ivy) plays its final home game of the 2019 season on Sunday, hosting Harvard (0-12-1, 0-5-0 Ivy) at 1 p.m. from Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.

5 THINGS TO KNOW
1. SENIOR SENDOFF
Columbia seniors John Denis, Dany Laranetto, Rory Madigan, Nick Marcin, Vana Markarian, Matthew Swain and Cyrus Siminou will be honored as part of Senior Day. Denis, Laranetto, Madigan, Markarian and Swain are all four-year members of the program. The group of seniors helped lead the way to Columbia's 2016 Ivy League Championship and help the Lions return to the NCAA Tournament in 2017. The seniors, their parents and their families will continue to be honored in their traditioned end of year banquet and celebration.
2. LAST TIME OUT
Columbia traveled to Hofstra on Tuesday but ran into a roadblock, falling to the Pride by a score of 3-0. Hofstra took the lead less than six minutes into the match, led 2-0 at halftime and went on to score a third in the 68th minute. Columbia's best chance to score came in the opening minutes when John Denis' left-footed shot was saved. Hofstra then struck on the counter.
3. BY THE NUMBERS
4. PENALTY STOPPER
First-year goalkeeper Michael Collodi has stopped all three penalties he's faced in his Columbia career. His first penalty stop came back on Sept. 27 in a 2-0 win over Monmouth. His second came on Oct. 5 to help preserve a 3-2 win over Brown. He most recently stopped a penalty at Dartmouth (Oct. 26) to preserve a 0-0 draw.
5. THE SERIES
Columbia and Harvard first met in 1906. Sunday's matchup will mark the 71st between the two sides. The Lions have won each of the last two, including a 6-0 win the last time Harvard visited New York in 2017. Columbia has won five of the last eight against the Crimson overall.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Harvard is still in search of its first win of the season, losing 12 of its 13 matches to this point, including eight straight. Its only non-losing result of the year came on Sept. 24 in a 3-3 draw with Merrimack, which was newly elevated to Div. I status this season. The Crimson have been outscored in Ivy League play by a margin of 17-2, scoring a goal against Yale in a 3-1 loss and a goal against Dartmouth in a 3-1 loss.
