NEW YORK – The Columbia Lions No. 6 Women (5-1) and No. 7 Men (4-2) returned home successful this evening after the Ivy league season opener against Cornell. The women finished their matches with and overall score of 8-1 and the men, 7-2.

HOW THE WOMEN FINISHED: In dominating fashion, the No. 6 Columbia women defeated No. 9 Cornell in a clean competition. No. 9
Doria Chen played a close first game against Ania LaDow, taking the game 12-10, sweeping the second game, 11-4, and pulling through the last game for the match, 10-12. No. 8
Jane Pincus played great against Lucy Martin winning her games, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7. No. 4
Jui Kalgutkar started the match against Madison Miles, 11-5, then dropped the second game in a close loss, 7-11 but went on to take the last two games 14-12, 11-5 for the victory. No. 2
Nicole Kendall played tough five game battle defeating Lily Zelov, 5-11, 12-10, 10-12, 13-11.Â

HOW THE MEN FINISHED: On the men's side, The Lions got their wins from No. 9
Hugh Camiener who played a close match against Jared Scherl, winning the first two games 11, 9, 11-6 but then dropping the third game 5-11. Hugh was able to rally back to take the 5th game 12-10. No. 7
Aditya Kankariya had a clean sweep over Humza Khan, winning the first game 11-9 and the second in a long rally for, 16-14. Kankariya finished the match with a close win, 11-8. No. 6
Rahul Sehrawat battled through five game match games against Illia Presman winning the first game, 11-9, while dropping the second game, 11-13. Sehrawat pushed through the games to come out on top winning the match, 3-2. No. 5
Krish Kapur competed well after losing the first game to come back and sweep the next three games to defeat Nicolas Goth Errington, 9-11, 11-6, 11-8,11-6. No. 2
James Wyatt defeated Charles Culhane coming out on top, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8.Â
