Weekend highlights include Sam Ritz running a sub-4:00 mile, Josiah Langstaff and Alek Sauer placing high in the 800-meter run and Iman Sule finishing in sixth place in the 400-meter dash.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y./BOSTON—The Columbia Track and Field men's and women's teams competed in two different indoor events this weekend as the majority of the team traveled to the Fast Track National Elite Meet at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island and the other half competed at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
At Boston University, the men were led by Sam Ritz, who ran a sub-4:00 mile as he ran a 3:59.36 in the One Mile Run to become the third sub-4-miler in school history. Alek Sauer (1:48.94) and Josiah Langstaff (1:49.14) finished sixth and seventh overall respectively in the 800-meter run. On the women's side, Iman Sule raced to a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash (persona-best 55.02), Bianca Alonzo finished 13th in the 1,000-meter run (personal-best 2:50.96), Katie Wasserman finished 13th in the One Mile Run (personal-best 4:41.61), Abigail McLaughlin ran a 16:49.59 for 13th place in the 5,000-meter run and Erin Gregoire (personal-best 9:24.64) and Allie Hays (personal-best 9:26.96) finished 13th and 15th respectively in the 3,000-meter run. All events featured a deep and competitive field.
At the Fast Track Nationals, Columbia also generated a variety of top performances. On the women's side, Brianna Hodges placed fifth in the 400-meter dash (57.20), Jillian Murray placed sixth in the 800-meter run (2:13.23) and Simone Kirton ran an 8.70 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, then followed that up with an 8.53 to place third in the finals. On the men's side, highlights were provided by Rob O'Brien, who placed sixth in the pole vault (4.80m).
A variety of personal records were also established this weekend.
