No. 37 Lions Fall to Penn 4-0

Paulina Ferrari and Akanksha Bhan defeat No. 48 ranked doubles team at No. 1 doubles; Lions drop second match in a row.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Following two rain delays which moved the match indoors to Hecht Tennis Center, Penn registered a 4-0 victory over No. 37 ranked Columbia Sunday. The loss drops Columbia to 13-4 overall and 2-3 in the Ivy League, while Penn improves to 14-5 overall and 3-2 in the Ivy League.
Columbia sophomore Paulina Ferrari and first-year Akanksha Bhan started the day off with a 6-4 doubles victory over the nation's No. 48 ranked team of Marta Kowalska and Marija Curnic at No. 1 doubles. But Penn's Iuliia Bryzgalova and OJ Singh followed with a 6-2 win over Columbia sophomore Christie Wan and senior Andrea Kevakian at No. 2 doubles, then Penn's Ashley Zhu and Carolyn Xie won a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles over Columbia sophomore Jennifer Kerr and senior Sarah Hu to claim the doubles point.
In singles, Penn's Bryzgalova, the nation's No. 92 ranked singles player, defeated Kerr 6-1, 7-5 in No. 1 singles. That win gave Penn a 2-0 lead. Moments later, Penn's Curnic won a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4 singles over Columbia first-year Melissa Sakar. Penn clinched the win after OJ Singh claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over Columbia's Kevakian.
Two matches remain for Columbia. The Lions return home to complete their regular season against Dartmouth (Saturday, April 20 at noon) and Harvard (Sunday, April 21 at Noon). Sunday's match marks Senior Day for seniors Hu and Kevakian.
