Columbia took on three nationally ranked crews Saturday at Lake Carnegie
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's rowing team competed against No. 7 Princeton, No. 12 Wisconsin and No. 14 Rutgers on Saturday at Lake Carnegie, falling to all three in the varsity eight. The Tigers held on to the Dauphiny & Hewitt Cup.
"We knew this race would put us against some of our toughest opponents," Columbia head coach Emerson Curry said. "Rutgers, Wisconsin and Princeton have all been performing very well this season. The highlight of the day was our second varsity crew beating out Rutgers and challenging a very strong Wisconsin boat."
Columbia's second varsity crew bested Rutgers by eight seconds and finished just 2.3 seconds behind Wisconsin with a time of 6:57.8. In the varsity race, the Lions completed the 2,000-meter Lake Carnegie course in 6:42.4 while Princeton won the race in a time of 6:20.1.
The Lions also competed against all three teams in the varsity four, finishing fourth in 7:51.7. The second varsity finished third to Princeton and Rutgers.
Columbia looks ahead to EAWRC Sprints on Sunday, which will be held at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.
