Lions Finish Seventh, Daniel Core Places 11th at Princeton Invite

Core and Arjun Puri (18th) place among field's top-20 as Lions combine for a seventh place finish at six-over-par 283-285-290-858.
PRINCETON, N.J.—Led by first-year Daniel Core's 11th place finish after firing a three-under-par 71-70-69-210, the Columbia men's golf team concluded its weekend at the Princeton Invitational in seventh place Sunday at the Springdale Golf Club.
After Columbia put together its two best rounds of golf on Saturday (283-285), the Lions followed that performance up with a six-over par 290 to finish the two-day, three-round invitational at six-over-par 858. Individually, Arjun Puri backed up Core, giving Columbia two top-20 place scorers in an invitational for the first time this year.

All weekend, Core played consistent golf. Core, who entered Sunday's final round in a tie for 16th place, sparked the Lions on Sunday as he shot a two-under-par 69 to move up five spots in the standings. He got rolling on the front nine as he carded two birdies and seven pars and a birdie and only one bogey on the back nine. He finished the weekend with 10 birdies. Through the first two rounds, Core finished the day with seven birdies and 24 pars. In the first round, he tallied back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13 and in the second round he fired back-to-back birdies on holes 2 and 3 en route to a one-under-par 34 on the front nine.
Following Core, Puri finished in 18th place after carding a one-over-par 68-73-73-214. On Sunday, Puri buried one birdie and 14 pars. Puri opened Saturday on fire as he shot a career-low 68 in the first round, which put him in third place through the first 18 holes. He registered birdies on holes 1, 6, 9 and back-to-back on 12 and 13. In the second round, Puri carded birdies on holes 7 and 8, along with holes 12 and 17. He also finished the weekend with 10 birdies.
First-year Derek Kim moved up 12 spots the individual standings with a 72 on Sunday. He finished in 40th place with a six-over-par 72-75-72-219. Kim totaled five birdies on the weekend.
Sophomore John Robertson also finished in 40th place after shooting a six-over-par 72-71-76-219. On Sunday, he holed two birdies and finished with 10 for the weekend. Saturday saw him card eight birdies and 19 pars.
Junior Nick Brisebois rounded Columbia scorers in 55th place with a nine-over-par 75-71-76-222. Brisebois poured it on in the second round as he shot three straight birdies on holes 12, 13 and 14.
On Saturday, Columbia put together a true team effort as the Lions combined to shoot a one-under-par 283 in the first round and followed it up with a one-over-par 285 in Saturday's second round. The 283 stands as Columbia's top team round of the 2018-19 season. In the first round, Columbia carded 68 (Arjun Puri), 71 (Daniel Core), 72 (John Robertson) and 72 (Derek Kim). The second round saw the Lions combine a 70 (Core), 71 (Robertson), 71 (Nick Brisebois) and 73 (Puri). The top four scores count toward each team score and all five Lions stepped into the scoring column in at least one round.
Yale won the team competition after shooting a 23-under-par 279-270-280-829, Yale's Paul Sankey won the individual competition with an 11-under-par 70-64-68-202.
Thirteen teams competed this weekend at Princeton including seven of the eight Ivy League teams. Those competing included Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown, Harvard, Loyola (Md.), Penn, Princeton, Rider, Saint Joseph's, Seton Hall, Temple and Yale.
The Springdale Golf Club is a par-71, 6,424-yard course.
