NEW YORK — In the final weekend of action before Ivy League play commences, the Columbia women's soccer team will host a pair of non-conference opponents at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. The Lions will first bring in NJIT on Friday for a 6 p.m. ET kickoff before taking on Drexel on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Â
As with all Columbia home contests, both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+ while live statistics are available
here.
Â
Columbia (3-2-1) is looking to bounce back following a 1-0 loss at Hofstra on Sunday afternoon. The Lions were nearly able to equalize in the 87th minute as senior midfielder
Maddie Temares curled a corner kick into the net, but Columbia was called for goalkeeper interference and the goal was waved off.
Â
This will be the first time this season the Lions have played back-to-back home games, having played four of their six matches on the road. Columbia enters the weekend with a 1-1 mark at home, including a 3-0 loss to 11th-ranked Tennessee and a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's on Sept. 12.
Â
Following Sunday's game, the Lions will hold a post-game autograph session for all fans. The Lion Store will also be open for the Drexel game and will be located outside the stadium.
Â
PLAY WITH PRIDE WEEK
The Lions are joining forces with United Soccer Coaches to celebrate the third annual
Play with Pride Week. The initiative was developed in 2017 by the association's LGBT & Allies Coaches Advocacy Group.
Â
Columbia will be showing its support for athletes and coaches in the LGBTQ+ community by wearing rainbow wrist bands against Drexel on Sunday.
Â
SCOUTING NJIT
The Highlanders visit New York City with a 3-2-2 overall record, most recently having earned a 1-1 draw against LIU last Friday, Sept. 13. NJIT's offense is led by sophomore forward Fiona Wright who has six points behind two goals and two assists. First-year forward Bailey Chant follows closely with two goals and one assist.
Â
This will be the fourth-ever meeting between NJIT and Columbia, with the programs not having met since the 2014 campaign. The Highlanders are looking for their first win in the series as the Lions lead it 2-0-1.
Â
SCOUTING DREXEL
Before playing Seton Hall on Thursday evening, the Dragons sit at 3-2-2 on the season coming off a 2-1 double overtime victory at St. John's on Sunday. Sophomore Lauren Currey scored the game-winner in the 107th minute at St. John's. The sophomore leads the Dragons with 10 points this season behind four goals and two assists and is the only player on the roster with multiple goals this season.
Â
Drexel looks to even the all-time series, as Columbia leads 1-0-1. The two teams met last year in Philadelphia with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
