Lions to Face Maryland on Saturday

Columbia Women's Tennis travels to College Park for Saturday match at noon.
COLLEGE PARK, Md.—The Columbia women's tennis team travels to College Park, Md. to face Maryland on Saturday at The Tennis Center at College Park. First-serve is at noon ET.
Columbia (2-2) enters its weekend after dropping back-to-back matches to Old Dominion (4-1) and Auburn (4-2) at the ITA Kick-Off Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. last weekend. Columbia was one of 60 NCAA Division I women's teams selected to compete in the ITA Kick-Off event.
Maryland enters its dual match against Columbia with a perfect 4-0 record after defeating the likes of Georgetown (4-3), Southern Utah (6-1), Towson (6-1) and Coppin State (4-0). Columbia is 4-5 all-time vs. Maryland but has won four of the last five matchups including a 6-1 victory last year in New York.
Individually, Columbia has put together a 108-49 record in singles and 52-25 doubles record. Leading the Lions are No. 65 ranked singles player Akanksha Bhan (14-6), who advanced to the ITA Nationals Main Draw during the fall, junior Jennifer Kerr (11-5), sophomore Melissa Sakar (14-2), first-year Julia Haynes (11-3), first-year Shivani Amineni (11-4), first-year Michelle Xu (15-2) and junior Christie Wan (5-7). In doubles, the Lions are led by Haynes and Xu (12-4), Wan and Sakar (8-4), Kerr and Amineni (5-1), and Bhan and junior Paulina Ferrari (10-5).
