Lions Finish Seventh; Han Takes 23rd at Savannah Invite

Nathan Han places 23rd at 5-over-par 221; Lions tie for seventh place in 19-team (299-295-291-885) at season-opening Invitational at Savannah Harbor.
SAVANNAH, Ga.—In its season-opening competition, the Columbia men's golf team finished in seventh place out of 19 teams at the 54-hole Invitational at Savannah Harbor on Sunday at the Club at Savannah Harbor. First-year Nathan Han led the Lions in the two-ay invitational with a 23rd place finish at five-over-par 72-76-73-221. Final results are available on Golfstat at this link.
It was a successful season-opening weekend for the Lions as Columbia's team scores improved with each round. The Lions tied for seventh with a 21-over-par 299-295-291-885 score. On Sunday, the Lions put up solid scores throughout the lineup as sophomore Daniel Core and first-year Alvin Kwak both shot 72s, Han shot a 73, junior John Robertson finished with a 74 and senior Nick Brisebois put up a 76. The Lions also led the field in par-3 scoring (3.03).
Han finished the tournament with eight birdies. His best round was in Saturday's first round when he fired three birdies on the back nine.
On Sunday, Kwak moved up six spots on the leaderboard after shooting a 72 after carding two birdies and 14 pars. He finished the weekend in 29th place with an 81-69-72-222. His 69 in Saturday's second round tied for the second lowest round score of the day. After shooting an 81 in the first round, Han moved up 53 spots in the standings after he caught fire on the second round's back nine as he rallied with four birdies and five pars. He finished the day with a team-high six birdies.
Robertson finished in tied for 29th place with a six-over-par 72-76-74-222. He led the Lions in pars with nine. Robertson ended Saturday with five birdies and put together a first round that saw him fire two birdies and 14 pars. On Sunday, he finished the back nine strong with four birdies, including three consecutive on holes 16, 17, and 18.
Core moved up nine spots to 57th place on Sunday as he concluded the invitational at 10-over-par 74-80-72-226. He also finished strong with three birdies on the back nine. He found success in Saturday's first round with one birdie and 14 pars. Core ranked fourth in the field for most pars (39).
Senior Nick Brisebois rounded out the Columbia scorers in 83rd place at 17-over-par 83-74-76-233. On Saturday, Brisebois moved up 10 spots in the standings with a successful second round that saw him card three birdies on holes 4, 9 and 11. He concluded the day with four birdies. He tallied two birdies in Sunday's final round.
Valparaiso ended up winning the team title at five-over-par 301-283-285-869. Wright State's Austin Schoonmaker maintained his lead over the final round and won the individual title at seven-under-par 69-70-70-209.
Nineteen teams are competing at the event, which is being hosted by William & Mary. Those teams include Bethune-Cookman, Bradley, Brown, Columbia, Delaware, Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida A&M, Francis Marion, Iona, IUPUI, Longwood, Navy, Northern Kentucky, Savannah State, Saint Joseph's, Valparaiso, Western Carolina, William & Mary, and Wright State.
The Club at Savannah Harbor is a par-72, 6,918-yard course.
Columbia is back in action with a dual match against Keiser University on Feb. 28 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
