5 Things to Know: Columbia Visits Hofstra Tuesday

NEW YORK — The Columbia men's soccer team (1-5-2, 0-1-0 Ivy) travels out to Long Island to battle Hofstra (9-1-0, 3-1-0 CAA) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday. First kick from Hofstra Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Here are five things to know heading into the matchup.
#1 | LAST TIME OUT
Columbia is coming off a 1-0 defeat in Saturday's Ivy League opener against Brown. The Lions surrendered the game's only goal off a corner kick in the 39th minute. Junior goalkeeper Michael Collodi came up with five saves, including a few diving stops. Meanwhile, the Lions were left searching for their first goal since September 10.
#2 | DEFENSIVE LEADERS
Columbia's defensive numbers rank among the NCAA elite. The Lions rank No. 13 in save percentage (.848) and No. 37 in team GAA (0.829). The Lions' seven total goals allowed on the season and GAA both rank No. 1 in the Ivy League.
Heading the defensive effort is Michael Collodi. The junior keeper ranks No. 4 in the NCAA in save percentage (.892), No. 20 in saves per game (4.71) and No. 20 in goals against average (0.596). His save percentage and GAA both rank No. 1 in the Ivy League. Collodi has been in goal for seven of the eight matches this season, totaling 33 saves and just four goals allowed in over 600 minutes of action.

The Lions are in search of their first goal since September 10 in a 2-2 draw with Manhattan, which was scored by Bryan Cosman in the game's 79th minute. The goalless drought currently stands at 501:25.
#5 | THE OPPONENT
Hofstra (9-1-0, 3-1-0 CAA) has won six matches in a row and own the sixth-longest active winning streak in the nation. The Pride are receiving votes in the national poll and ranked fourth in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Regional Poll in the latest release last Tuesday. Their 9-1-0 overall record marks the best 10-game start in program history.
The Pride is coming off a 4-1 win at Delaware this past Saturday night behind two goals from Ryan Carmichael and single goals from Storm Strongin and Hendrik Hebbeker. Carmichael has scored six goals in the last three games and leads the Pride with eight on the campaign. Seven different Hofstra players have combined for the team's 23 goals this season.
Wessel Speel has started all 10 matches in goal. Speel has allowed just eight goals in 896 minutes of action and carries a GAA of 0.80.
