Here are five things you should know ahead of Saturday's contest:
#1 | DEFENDING RBC
Columbia is in the midst of a three-game home stand after taking on Brown last Saturday. This Saturday, the Lions will welcome conference-rival Penn for a 3:00 P.M. matchup before hosting Adelphi Tuesday evening. Columbia is currently 3-2-1 at home after coming away victorious in three of the last four matches at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium.
#2 | ROOKIE REIGN
Of Columbia's 31 athletes to see the pitch this season, just two have started all ten contests. They are rookies Marcia Ojo and Sophia Cavaliere. Including Ojo and Cavaliere, seven first-year Lions have started at least one contest while nine have made in-game appearances. With just six upperclassmen on roster, underclass contributions have been vital to Columbia's success this season.
**Correction: Both Nata Ramirez and Ally Clark have also started all games for the Lions.**
#3 | HIGH SCHOOL HEROES
Four Lions have accumulated shots in the double digits through the first ten games. Of these four, three, Cavaliere, Madi Pilla, and Nata Ramirez, attended the same high school. Columbia Athletics staff writer Matt Sugam details the journey of four Lions from the Pingry School in Basking Ridge, N.J. to Morningside Heights in his most recent feature.
4 | HONOR ROLL
Seven different Lions have been named to the Ivy League's Weekly Honor Roll, including Claire Pinnie and Sophia Cavaliere who both snag their second nods this week.
This season's honorees are listed below.
Week 1 (Sept. 1) | Nata Ramirez, Ally Clark
Week 2 (Sept. 7) | Nata Ramirez, Paige Nurkin
Week 3 (Sept. 13) | Sophia Cavaliere, Claire Pinnie
Week 4 (Sept. 20) | Paige Nurkin, Marcia Ojo

#5 | OPPONENT
Penn (6-2-2) has won four of its last five games, most recently defeating Cornell 2-0 in Ithaca, N.Y. after dropping its Ivy League opener to Harvard 0-3 at home. Offensively, the Quakers are paced by senior forward Mia Shenk and sophomore midfielder Lauren Teuschel. Shenk's five goals are a team-best while Teuschel's three goals and six assists pace the points race at 12. Teuschel was named Ivy League Player of the Week on September 20, following a goal and an assist in Penn's 2-0 win over Villanova and an overtime game-winning assist against Rice.
Sophomore Laurence Gladu has backstopped every minute of competition thus far, owning a 0.95 goals against average 0.825 save percentage.
To date, Columbia is 12-14-5 against Penn. The Lions have won three of the last four matchups against the Quakers including one-goal overtime wins in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
