Lions Send Throwers/Jumpers To Yale Season Opener

Columbia Track & Field will send a collection of men and women throwers and jumpers to the Yale Season Opener (Dec. 11).
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Columbia Track & Field will wrap up 2021 and begun to look at 2022 with one final meet, as the Lions will send a collection of men and women throwers and jumpers to the Yale Season Opener, hosted by Yale at the Coxe Cage, with the first even set to get going at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11.

MORRIS GOES BACK TO THE FUTURE: In the opening meet at the Bill Ward Invite (Dec. 4) sophomore McKinlee Morris, in the first throw of her collegiate career, broke a 27-year old program record in the shot put. Morris set a mark of 46-2.75/14.09m, breaking the previous record of 13.46m set in 1994 by Rachelle Noble.
The mark was eventually bested by Manhattan's Alexandra Preckajlo, giving Morris a second-place finish in the shot put and a great start to her collegiate career.
17 FIRST PLACE FINISHES ON THE ISLAND: Columbia opened its 2021-22 campaign, after 636 days of no competition, at the Bill Ward Invite (Dec. 4), hosted by St. John's at the Ocean Breeze Complex. During the competition, Columbia finished first in eight events, with 17 Lions earning first-place finishes.
Olivia Schmitt clocked a first-place finish time of 2:54.95 in the 1,000m, while Anna Jordahl-Henry (HJ) and Kali Hatcher (TJ) each took first in their respective events. Individually on the men's side, Will O'Brien cleared 15-6.25/4.73m to take first in the pole vault, while Michael Danzi crossed the line first in the 3,000m with a time of 8:40.61.
Columbia's women's 4x400m Relay (Tess Darnell, Fredericka Walker, Sydney Goldson, Amara Onyeukwu) and 4x800 Relay (Daphne Matthews, Zoë Harris, Delaney Sanacore, Schmitt) squads each took first place in their respective events, while the men's 4x800m Relay squad of Daniel Addison, Solomon Fountain, Brandon Hicks and Danzi snagged first as well rounding out Columbia's top performances from the evening.
TOP RETURNING LIONS: Despite the break in competition, the Lions still carry on their roster a collection of All-Ivy and Ivy League champions heading into the 2021-22 season. Returning at the top of the Ivy League is junior A. Jordahl-Henry, who as a first-year took the Ivy League Indoor title in the high jump, clearing 1.79m to win at the 2020 Heps.
Jordahl-Henry is also a returning All-Ivy performer, having earned First-Team honors with her performance that the 2020 Indoor Heps, and her mark of 1.79m ranks her second all-time in program history. Joining Jordahl-Henry as a returning All-Ivy performer is senior Hatcher, who is a two-time second-team All-Ivy performer and owns the second-best triple jump mark (13.08m) in program history.
For the men, senior Solomon Fountain returns as the lone All-Ivy performer, having been a part of the 2019 Ivy League Championship 4x800-Meter Relay team. And returning as the current program record holder in the 200-Meter Dash is junior Jahi Hernandez, who ran a 21.58 at the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Championships in 2020.
