BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Columbia field hockey's Frederique Fyhr, Zoe Metallios, Sinclair Mott, Helen Sayegh and Maya Walker were each named NFHCA Scholars of Distinction, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association released Thursday. Additionally, the Lions had 18 honorees on the 2020 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as announced 18.
The Lions also picked up the NFHCA's Division I National Academic Team Award on March 29 after posting a GPA of above 3.0 during the 2020 fall semester. All 79 Division I programs earned the honor.
The NFHCA National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2020-2021 school year.
The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year, while the National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-2021 academic year.
Seniors Grace Payne and Sayegh have been members of the Acadmic Squad all four years of their collegiate careers.
The NFHCA Division I National Scholar-Athlete will be announced on June 15, 2021.
