NEW YORK—Columbia Football and Columbia Athletics mourn the loss of former football player Parker Coogan '20CC, who suddenly passed away Tuesday evening in Texas. Coogan, who worked as a sales and trading analyst at Barclays Investment Bank in New York City, was visiting family and friends in his hometown of Kingwood, Texas, a suburb northeast of Houston.

"We are devastated, shocked, and saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Parker Coogan," Columbia's Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football Al Bagnoli said. "Parker was the epitome of what every program wants in a football player and student-athlete. He was a tremendous leader both on and off the field and was someone the entire team looked up to through his strong work ethic, great enthusiasm, and charismatic energy. He was also a talented football player, hard-working offensive lineman, and even better individual."

"Our entire football family grieves with his passing and our program extends our deepest sympathies to the Coogan family."

A two-time All-Ivy League selection as an offensive lineman in both 2018 and 2019, Coogan played in 32 career games with 30 consecutive starts at both center and right guard. As a sophomore, he started 10 games at right guard before making the transition to the center position for his junior and senior seasons. He made virtually every snap during his senior year before a mid-game injury sidelined him during the season finale at Cornell.

A four-year letterman, Coogan also was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection  (2017 and 2019), 2019 Fall Academic All-Ivy League honoree, and 2019 NFF Hampshire Academic Honor Society member. Following his senior season in 2019, Coogan was named a Third Team All-Ivy League selection by Phil Steele Magazine and was selected as Columbia's Jack Armstrong Most Outstanding Lineman Award recipient at the team's banquet. In 2018, he was part of a Lions offensive line that allowed just 19.0 sacks for 126 yards, marks that rank as the second-lowest opponent totals in school history. He was a three-time Dean's List student.

At Columbia, Coogan was also active in the community as he organized Columbia's yearly Jacked 4 Jacklyn Foundation fundraiser and liftathon.

Coogan graduated from Columbia College in May 2020 with an Economics degree and concentration in Business Management. Previously, he attended Kingwood High School, where he played three years of varsity football for head coach Barry Campbell. Coogan was a two-time First Team All-District honoree, two-time Academic All-District selection, and served as the team's captain during his senior year. A National Merit Scholar as a student, Coogan also competed in track and field and set a personal record in the shot put with a 49-4 ½ throw as a senior.

Coogan is the son of Tim and Amy Coogan and has a brother Alexander and sister McKenna.
