Lions enter event as the defending team champion after taking home the title in 2019.
WATCHUNG, N.J.—Fresh off last weekend's team championship at The Doc Gimmler, the Columbia Men's Golf program travels to Watching Valley Golf Club to compete in the annual Cornell Invitational on Sunday and Monday. Columbia enters the weekend as the event's defending champion as the Lions claimed the 2019 title by one stroke over Bucknell.
Live results are available on Golfstat at this link.
The teams will pay 18 holes on Sunday (tee times scheduled to start at noon) and 18 holes on Monday (tee times starting at 8 a.m.). The Seth Raynor-designed Watchung Valley Golf Club course plays to a par of 71 and stretches out to 6,911 yards from the tips.
Twelve teams will compete from 10 schools including Binghamton, Colgate, Columbia, host Cornell, Lafayette, Penn, Princeton, Saint Joseph's, Siena and Temple. Colgate and Penn enter two teams apiece.
In its season opener last weekend, Columbia combined for a five-over-par 281-278-286-845 and finished just one stroke ahead of Harvard (+6, 846) and Connecticut (+6, 846) to win the Doc Gimmler. The Lions have won three straight fall invitationals dating back to 2019 as the other two titles came at the Cornell Invitational (Sept. 14-15, 2019) and UConn Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 29-Oct. 1, 2019).
All seven Columbia golfers will play this weekend, including two as individuals. Five Lions—sophomore DJ Francey, sophomore Nathan Han, junior Pat Healy, sophomore Alvin Kwak, and first-year William Sung participated in last week's win The Doc Gimmler. Two Lions—senior Daniel Core and first-year Wyatt McGovern—will make their first 2021-22 appearance this weekend.
