5 THINGS TO KNOW:
1. THE LATEST
• The Lions kept their perfect Ivy League record intact on the road this past Saturday with a, 60-52, victory against Brown. After battling through a sluggish first quarter offensively, Columbia used an 8-0 second-quarter run to take the lead and never trailed again. They led by as many as 12 and remained in front by double digits midway through the third quarter, but Brown punched back with a 7-0 run to make it a one-point game heading to the fourth. Just as they've done all season, the Lions were composed in the final period. Hannah Pratt scored the first five points and Columbia outscored the Bears 21-14 en route to its fifth straight win.
• When the final horn sounded, juniors Hannah Pratt and Kaitlyn Davis had combined for 33 points and 36 rebounds to carry the Lions to victory. Pratt matched her career-high of 17 points and grabbed a career-high 19 boards, while Davis scored 16 to go with 17 on the glass, as well as a career-high five assists.
2. CRASHING THE GLASS
• In grabbing a combined 36 rebounds in Saturday's win at Brown, Hannah Pratt and Kaitlyn Davis totaled the most rebounds by two teammates in one game in NCAA women's basketball this season. Their mark tied that of Delaware's Ty Battle and Lizzy Olearly, who also combined for 36 in an 86-84 overtime victory against College of Charleston (Jan. 9). Pratt and Davis are the only pair to post 36 combined rebounds in a regulation game.
3. DAVIS EARNS POTW #3
• Kaitlyn Davis averaged 13.0 points, 17.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and a steal through wins over Cornell and Brown last week and was rewarded for her efforts by being named Ivy League Player of the Week. The selection is Davis' third of the season (Nov. 22, Dec. 6). The Norwalk, Connecticut native and product of Greenwich Academy posted her fifth and sixth double-doubles of the season, including a career-high 18 rebounds against the Big Red, as well as an impressive 16 points and 17 rebounds two days later at Brown. Davis also went on to be named Met Basketball Writers Women's Div. I Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
• First-year guard Kitty Henderson averaged 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds last week to earn her second Ivy League Rookie of the Week selection of the season (Nov. 15). The Australian shot 8-of-17 (.471) from the floor, including 5-of-11 (.455) from the outside. She started her week with a game- and career-high 18 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 3-PT), along with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals to help lead the Lions past Cornell, scoring 12 of Columbia's 20 points in the third quarter. Henderson followed it up with 10 points, nine rebounds, a steal and an assist at Brown.
5. SCOUTING PENN
• After starting the Ivy League season 2-0, Penn (7-9, 2-2 Ivy) has dropped back-to-back league contests at home against Princeton, 70-50, and on the road at Yale, 63-53. Their leading scorer is 2019-20 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Kayla Padilla, who is averaging 21.3 points in 10 games this season. She shoots 43.1 percent from the floor and 41.4 percent from long range – Padilla does not qualify for Ivy League or NCAA statistical rankings due to not meeting the games played requirement of 75 percent. Sophomore forward Jordan Obi has played in all 16 games and is averaging 13.4 points and 7.1 rebounds. Obi was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week twice during non-conference play.
• Penn leads the Ivy League in blocked shots (72), blocks per game (4.5), led by Obi's team-high 24 rejections. Obi's ranks among the top 100 in the NCAA in both categories, as well as fourth in the Ivy League.
• The Lions are hoping this is the year they can finally turn the tide on Penn. The Quakers lead the all-time series, 51-18, and have won 18 straight dating back to 2012. Columbia's last series victory came at home on Feb. 25, 2011, defeating Penn by a final of 61-54.
