Davis Named Met Basketball Writers Player of the Week

Ivy League POTW earns first MBWA honors
NEW YORK — Columbia's Kaitlyn Davis was named Division I Women's Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association for the week of Jan. 17-23. The MBWA announced its weekly honors Tuesday morning.
The Met Basketball Writers Association encompasses 21 New York City Metropolitan area schools across NCAA Div. I. Those schools include Army West Point, Columbia, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Hofstra, Iona, LIU, Manhattan, Marist, Monmouth, NJIT, Rider, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, St. Francis, St. John's, Saint Peter's, Seton Hall, Stony Brook and Wagner.
A native of Norwalk, Connecticut, Davis averaged 13.0 points, 17.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists 2.0 blocks and a 1.0 steal to lead the Lions to a 2-0 week over Cornell and Brown. The junior had a double-double in each game, upping her season total to six, beginning with 10 points and career-highs of 18 rebounds and five assists in a Thursday night home win over the Big Red. She followed it up with 16 points (7-15 FG), 17 rebounds, three blocks and a career-high-tying five assists in Saturday's, 60-52, road win at Brown. The victories provided the Lions with their first 4-0 Ivy League start, along with their best overall record through 16 games (13-3) in program history.
The Met Basketball Writers Player of the Week award is the first of Davis' career. She was named Ivy League Player of the Week for a third time this season on Monday.
Winners of five straight, the Lions now get set to host Penn (7-9, 2-2 Ivy) this Wednesday night. Tip-off from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
