The sophomore scored the game-winner in the 54th minute

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Lindsey Yu scored a goal in the 54th minute, powering Columbia Field Hockey (4-8, 2-2) to a crucial Ivy League victory over Yale (6-7, 1-3) on Friday night.

Both of the Lions goals came in the first quarter and the last quarter. It was another standout performance for Katie Wimmer. The sophomore keeper came up huge again, stopping eight shots to help the Lions secure the victory.

The Lions let off four shots before tallying the first goal of the game in the final minute of the first quarter. Columbia was awarded a penalty corner, taking by Anna Brodeur.

Maya Walker had a shot saved, then Ellie Decker was there on the follow up, putting the ball past the Bulldogs keeper. For Decker, the goal was her first of the season.

Wimmer stopped two shots in the second quarter and Columbia went into halftime ahead by one. Yale knotted the score nearly three minutes into the third quarter. Walker's shot attempt in the 35th minute was saved and the teams entered the final period even at one.

With a little over five minutes remaining in regulation, the Lions worked the ball up the right sideline. Lindsey Yu was on the opposite side of the field, making a beeline for the back post. Gracie Hecht played the ball across the field and there was Yu, waiting for the deflection that turned out to be the game-winner and her second goal of the season.

Wimmer added another save for good measure before the final whistle, helping the Lions leave New Haven with a big conference win.
