Lions celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month
NEW YORK - After traveling to Providence, R.I. on Saturday for an Ivy League clash with Brown, the Lions face a quick turnaround, hosting Monmouth University in a nonconference bout on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. The meeting with the Hawks is the Pride Game for Columbia, celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month. The first 100 fans in attendance get a free PROUD bracelet.
The Lions enter the weekend as the Ivy League leader in total saves, racking up 69 as a team. Katie Wimmer is responsible for 68 of those saves, good enough for first in the conference. Last weekend, Columbia faced Cornell and Delaware in the first back-to-back of the season. The Lions dropped both contests by a score of 3-1. Against the Big Red, MK Myklebust scored the third goal of her collegiate career. The first two came in the season-opening win against LIU on September 2.
In the meeting with the Blue Hens, it was Maya Walker who found the back of the cage. For Walker, the goal marked her fifth of the season. The junior has 11 total points in 2022, adding an assist in the Virginia Commonwealth University matchup on September 11. Walker continues to be a major piece in the Lions lineup, building upon her Second Team All-Ivy League performance last season.
Columbia is the only team on the docket this weekend for Monmouth. The Hawks enter Sunday at 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The matchup is the second of the season for the Lions against a CAA opponent. Monmouth lost to #8 Princeton 6-1 in its last game.
